A photographic study of the eye versus the camera

At Suka, a restaurant just around the corner from our bed and breakfast, there is what appears to be a plain black shiny sign with the words "the suka.com" on it.  Here is the first (surprising) picture of that sign.  You can see me taking the picture:

How, when you look at it with your eye, initially, before you use  a camera, which never lies, this is what you see:

But then when you look carefully, you can see images appearing in what seemed to be a plain black sign:

And it *can* look like this if there is a bus outside the window!
